To have a positive experience at the Nintendo Forums, please follow these guidelines as closely as possible. They're pretty much basic netiquette, and they make the place a lot more friendly and enjoyable for all. Important Information Unacceptable Actions and Content List Here is a list of things that are not allowed at NF. Posting pornographic or obscene images Links to pornographic websites Advertising Outside of the appropriate area Warez and Piracy Flaming Multiple Accounts Double Posting Necroposting (Posting in threads older than 3 months without a good reason. Usually if your reply is not longer than 2 or 3 sentences, you probably shouldn't bump the topic). Spamming In general, these things are disruptive. Doing any of these things may result in a suspension, or removal from the forums. It will also result in a loss of Coins. The amount is at the discretion of administration. Obscene Content Nintendo Forums does not allow pornography or obscene content. If one is caught posting pornography or anything similar, the post will be removed, the user will be warned and possibly banned. This includes videos, images, and links to websites that contain pornography or obscene content. In addition, when posting or choosing a username, do not use any content that can be considered offensive, which includes but is not limited to swear words, hurtful or racial words, or otherwise offensive language. Like other rules, these are subject to be changed at any time and both implementation and changes are at the staff's discretion. Flaming There is a difference between 'flaming' and constructive criticism. Flaming is a direct insult with the sole intent to put someone down. Constructive criticism is intended to help the recipient through analysis. This might come with suggestions on how the subject of the criticism might be improved. The difference between these is the intent. Flaming is meant to antagonize, while constructive criticism offers advice. People might not always take your remarks the way you intended. Please do not overreact to words written on a forum. Advertisements Advertising your site is only allowed in the Advertise Your Site and in your signature (see below). If you advertise anywhere else on the forum (including via PM), your thread will be removed, you will be warned, and depending on the frequency, banned. To be able to create a topic in the Advertise Your Site forum, you must make 101 posts. This is to keep people from joining just to advertise. Click for more information Multiple Accounts Multiple accounts are prohibited unless specifically allowed by the forum administration. If you are just dodging a suspension, you will be IP banned. Joke accounts will be banned. Double Posting Double posting is fairly disruptive and annoys a lot of people. This is not a chat room, it's a forum. Please be patient, and learn to use the edit button if you have something to add. The edit button is conveniently at the bottom of every post you make. Spamming Spam is not allowed on Nintendo Forums. If you have to question whether or not your post is spam, then it's spam. It's come to our attention that some members have been posting spam-like posts. To combat this, there is a new Spamming rule. Each post outside of the Spam Zone must contain a full sentence. Posts like "Yeah." and "lol ok" are not allowed. This rule is being implemented to both increase the quality of posts, and to standardize the Coin and advertising incentives given to posting. Spam posts will be removed, warns will be given, and Coins will be taken. More details can be found here. Misc. Content Gold Coins Also referred to as simply Coins, Gold Coins are Nintendo Forum's virtual currency. They can be obtained in many ways! Check out ( ) and ( ) for more information on how to obtain and use Gold Coins. Gold Coins are also subject to changes in value at any point in time by administration. They can also be removed from members if they violate one of the rules listed above, or for any reason deemed worthy by administration. Name Changes To change your username you will need 15 Gold Coins. Click here for more information. Signatures and You Your Signature area, located underneath each one of your posts, is an area where you may post signature images, quotes, and other information. You may also post links to your social websites and profiles, such as Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, deviantArt, last.fm, and more. You may also advertise your forum in your signature. However, you may NOT post a link, or have the image in your signature linked to another forum. We consider this to be sidestepping the advertising rules, so it is not allowed. If we find anyone violating this rule, both the image and link will be removed, and we may warn the user. The user will also not be allowed to edit their signature for an undetermined amount of time. About Signature Sizes: To limit loading times and screen stretching, Nintendo Forums has a signature size limit in place. No signature may exceed 500 pixels wide by 300 pixles high. (500x300) This is to ensure members with slower internet speeds and users using smaller screens (such as mobile devices) will not have to wait for your signature to load. If your signature exceeds this amount by a large margin, it will be removed. Placing additional images, information, and text in a spoiler tag is certainly allowed and encouraged.
